Notre Dame football: Position groups that could surprise in 2022

Cornerback

The Irish return two starters from last season in Cam Hart and Clarence Lewis, two players who are going to be crucial if the Irish hope to improve in the secondary. Tariq Bracy has had a great offseason and should slide in as the nickel corner, and looking past those three, there are some exciting corners on this roster.

Sophomores Ryan Barnes and Philip Riley look like future starters, and true freshman Jaden Mickey has stood out since arriving on campus. Jayden Bellamy and Benjamin Morrison are also true freshmen looking to make a name for themselves, and in 2022, it will have to be a group effort from this position group.

The Notre Dame football team should be dominant on the defensive side of the ball, but they struggled in the secondary last season. There is talent there, and some solid depth, but this Fall is going to be very telling as to who steps into starting roles, and who is out there when the Irish battle one of the best quarterbacks in the country in CJ Stroud in Week 1.
