Notre Dame football: Will any true freshman make an impact in 2022?

Offense

Making an impact as true freshmen for the 2022 recruiting class could prove tough, especially up front along the offensive line. Notre Dame football returns all five starters from their Fiesta Bowl loss to Oklahoma State, and as a group, they are one of the best units in the entire country.

In 2022, the Irish added some quality true freshmen offensive linemen, including Billy Schrauth, Ty Chan, Joey Tanona, and Ashton Craig. Any one of these guys could figure into the starting lineup down the road, but this Fall, the five starters are likely set, and there are some talented veteran guys behind them.

One area we could see a true freshman get some run is at wide receiver, where Tobias Merriweather looks the part in terms of stepping in and helping in Year 1. Quarterback Steve Angeli has an advantage because no starter has been named for Week 1 against Ohio State, but in the end, he is likely to sit and watch Tyler Buchner and Drew Pyne battle it out.
