The Notre Dame football team named Tyler Buchner their starter this past weekend, and they could be set at the position for a long time.

This past weekend, the Notre Dame football team announced that Tyler Buchner would be their starting quarterback for the 2022 college football season. Buchner had been battling it out with Drew Pyne for the starting job in South Bend, but in recent weeks, all signs have been pointing to him being named the starter.

Now, with the 2022 schedule ready to kick off in a few weeks, Buchner and the first-team offense can get down to business and develop a game plan to possibly beat the No. 2 team in the country, Ohio State.

Last season, Buchner came in to spark the offense in relief of Jack Coan, a graduate transfer who arrived in South Bend and took the vacant starting job that became available with Ian Book going to the NFL. In Buchner, the Irish should have a multi-year starter and a guy who can hand the reins over to the next young quarterback on the depth chart.

Buchner is likely going to be the starter in 2023 if he can beat out Steve Angeli, a true freshman this upcoming season, and there is even more star power on the horizon.

Notre Dame football has a star coming in CJ Carr

Head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff have been dominating the recruiting trail, and for the 2024 cycle, they have landed a five-star quarterback in CJ Carr. Carr recently made a big jump in the rankings over at 247Sports.com and is the kind of player the Irish can build their program around.

With Buchner, Angeli, and eventually Carr within the position group, it is safe to say that the Irish are loaded at the most important position in sports for the foreseeable future.

Buchner will get a chance to prove his worth during the 2022 season, and faced with a daunting schedule, and a thin wideout group, he has his work cut out for him. He has drawn rave reviews from his teammates and coaching staff, and all signs point to him having a breakout season this fall.
