The Notre Dame football team should be elite in the defensive backfield in 2022, and Cam Hart will emerge as a legitimate first-round talent.

We are very close to the Notre Dame football team kicking off their 2022 season, a campaign that will start inside the Horseshoe against Ohio State. The Buckeyes are the No. 2 ranked team in the country per the AP Poll to kick off the new season, so it will certainly be an early-season test for the Irish.

Ohio State has an excellent combo at the quarterback and wideout spots, with CJ Stroud and Jaxon Smith-Njigba both legitimate Heisman Trophy candidates. Despite two Ohio State wideouts going in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, it was Smith-Njigba who was the No. 1 option for Stroud, and that will certainly be the case under the lights on September 3rd.

The man who will try and stop this tandem will be Cam Hart, the No. 1 cornerback on this Notre Dame football team, and a guy I believe will break out in a big way in 2022. Hart is everything you look for in a legitimate CB1 at both the collegiate, and NFL level, and this will be an excellent chance for him to show he can stop one of the better duos in the country.

In his career, Hart has nabbed two interceptions and has nine pass breakups, showing incredible skills in coverage. He is someone who will be a backbone of this Irish secondary in 2022, and with a strong showing, based on his size, there is no reason why he won’t emerge as a legitimate first-round talent for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Notre Dame football to be elite on defense

The Irish secondary as a whole will be a real strength for Notre Dame football in 2022, as Brandon Joseph is a former All-American who will thrive in South Bend. Clarence Lewis is a three-year starter opposite Hart at cornerback, and there is more depth at the position group than there has been in quite some time.

We are officially ten days away from the Irish battling it out against Ohio State, and for Hart, it will be a prime opportunity to get some first-round buzz going. If he can slow down the Ohio State passing attack, you have to believe he will be in for a big season for the Irish.
