The Notre Dame football program re-took the lead against Ohio State Saturday night thanks to an outstanding drive by Tyler Buchner.

Kicking off the season against a very tough opponent in the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Notre Dame football team was heavy underdogs. In fact, some publications had them as nearly 18-point dogs in this one, but one thing is for sure early, the Irish are not going anywhere any time soon.

After a field goal to open the game, they allowed a touchdown after giving the Buckeyes short field, but have come back to retake the lead. True sophomore Tyler Buchner is absolutely dealing inside Ohio Stadium, and that is a great sign for Marcus Freeman and his coaching staff.

Buchner was outstanding during the first touchdown drive of the season for the Irish, completing 4-of-4 passes, and spreading around the wealth. He completed passes to Michael Mayer, Chris Tyree, Kevin Bauman, and Matt Salerno, a dominant effort from a player making his first collegiate start in hostile territory.

For the game, Buchner has now completed 8-of-8 passes and is showing the ability to spread the football around. In the first Irish drive, he hit Lorenzo Styles Jr. for 54-yard, though the drive ended up stalling with a field goal.

So far in the matchup, Buchner has completed passes to five different players and is working both the inside and outside of this Ohio State defense.

Audric Estime capped off the 87-yard drive with a diving score, giving the Irish the lead for the second time in the first half. With a 10-7 lead, the Irish are firmly in this huge early-season matchup with the Ohio State Buckeyes, and we could be in for an instant classic if this continues.
