Marcus Freeman hopes to pick up his first victory as the Notre Dame football coach against the Marshall Thundering Herd.

The Notre Dame football team returns to the friendly confines of Notre Dame Stadium. On Saturday afternoon, the Irish will battle newly minted Sun Belt conference member, Marshall. Here are three bold predictions for Notre Dame’s clash with the visiting Thundering Herd.

Notre Dame football vs Marshall: Bold predictions in Week 2

The Notre Dame offense will score more but not explode against the Thundering Herd.

First-year Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman promised a more aggressive Irish offense after the team intentionally play conservative against Ohio State. The Irish only mustered 253 yards of total offense and 10 points against the Buckeyes. Offensive coordinator Tommy Rees hopes to open up the playbook against the Thundering Herd.

Against FCS program Norfolk State, the Herd yielded a meager 114 yards. However, the Notre Dame football team represents a different challenge than the Spartans of Norfolk State.

The Fighting Irish offensive line will dominate the 4-2-5 Marshall defense. This will set up shot plays for Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner. However, the Thundering Herd program more closely resembles the Toledo team the Irish battled in 2021.

Notre Dame will not crush Marshall like they did to South Florida, New Mexico, or Bowling Green. The Fighting Irish will score 38 points against the Thundering Herd.
