Notre Dame football: 5 Reasons Irish will blow out Cal on Saturday

Defensive Talent

Through the first two games, the Notre Dame football team has not been as good as advertised on the defensive side of the ball. Playing against Ohio State, they certainly held their own, especially in the first half, but since then, they have fallen off a bit.

Going up against Marshall, many expected a breakout game from guys like Isaiah Foskey, Brandon Joseph, and Cam Hart to name a few, but the defense fell flat. They were unable to get significant pressure against a bad offensive line, and that led to Marshall hanging around long enough to come away with the victory.

Saturday, they have to make a statement right out of the gate, and I believe Al Golden is going to put together a game plan to suffocate this Golden Bears offense. Jack Plummer is a solid quarterback, and he has some good weapons to throw to, but the pass rush should be outstanding, and the defensive backfield should nab an interception or two.
