Notre Dame football: 5 Reasons Irish will blow out Cal on Saturday

Running Game should thrive

For the past two years, the Notre Dame football program has been very reliant on a generational back named Kyren Williams. During his two years as the feature back, Williams ran over, and around any defense that stood in his way, and the team has not won a game since he declared for the NFL Draft before the Fiesta Bowl.

His backup for the last two years has been Chris Tyree, who was supposed to step up and lead this young running back room in 2022. Instead, the entire group has struggled, with Logan Diggs looking lost at times, and Audric Estime showing only flashes of the kind of running back he could be in the long run.

Against Cal, I believe the offensive line dominates in the trenches, and in turn, the running game returns to the kind of dominant force it was when Williams was still on campus. Tyree should have a big game against Cal, and it will be necessary, especially with a new quarterback under center, and an 0-3 start staring them in the face.
