The Notre Dame football team started out ranked No. 5 in the AP Poll, and three weeks later, they have vanished.

The 2022 college football season started off with high hopes for the Notre Dame football team, ranked in the top-5, and ready to shock the world. However, they started the season the same way they ended the last won, losing the opener against Ohio State, and then shockingly falling to Marshall the following week.

Now, the Irish look to get their season back on track, this after beating Cal 24-17 their last time out. Not a blowout win by any stretch, but it was the first for Marcus Freeman as the program’s head coach, and hopefully is a first of many for him and the Irish.

For the Irish, this has been a shocking fall out of the top-25, as they went from No. 5 to No. 8 after the loss to Ohio State, and then out of the top-25 after the Marshall loss. They did receive some votes after the Marshall loss, but after barely beating Cal this past weekend, they are nowhere to be seen.

However, they have more than a few chances to get back in the mix, as they play UNC, who received votes, this weekend, and then go up against No. 19 BYU in their next game. After that, they Stanford, UNLV, and Syracuse, before a tough four-game stretch to close the season against the likes of Clemson and USC.

Both Clemson and USC are top-10 teams right now, so the Irish certainly have their work cut out for them over the next few weeks to get ready for those matchups. For now, the focus has to be on UNC, who can score points in bunches, getting back to .500 on the year, and taking it from there.
