Notre Dame football dominates rival Boston College
By Tyler Kruse
Notre Dame football dominated some familiar faces and longtime rival Boston College by a convincing score of 44-0 at Notre Dame Stadium.
With a fair amount of wind and snow on this cold wintery day at Notre Dame Stadium, the Irish took care of business comfortably against Boston College. Benjamin Morrison and Isaiah Foskey led the way in the first half on defense. Morrison, the talented freshman, helped the Irish gain momentum with a whopping three interceptions. Morrison has proven that if you have the talent, regardless of age, Marcus Freeman will play you. Morrison has been an absolute revelation for the Irish at cornerback this year as he continues his strong freshman All-American campaign.
On the other hand, Foskey has been a consistent thorn in opposing teams’ sides for years and continues that trend today. He passed Justin Tuck (24.5) to become Notre Dame football’s all-time leader in sacks with 25 and counting. Though Foskey could return for the Irish, it’s hard to see him making that decision. While he will surely be missed, his contributions will never be forgotten for Notre Dame football.
The running backs continue to prove they’re the best group in the nation as they piled up the yards and scores in today’s contest. Logan Diggs started the game with a 51-yard scamper to the Boston College 24 yard-line. Diggs finished the day with 122 yards and a touchdown. Estime found the endzone twice and rushed for 71 while Tyree carried the rock 6 times for 50 yards and a touchdown. None of the Irish backs had under 6.5 yards per carry.
Former Notre Dame football tight-end George Takacs played in this one for offensive coordinator John McNulty and caught 2 passes for 8 yards. McNulty was the former Notre Dame tight ends coach before coach Gerad Parker. Former Notre Dame quarterback Phil Jurkovec sat this one out with an injury. Overall the Irish did a great job containing the Boston College offense, especially Zay Flowers. Unfortunately for Flowers, he had to go up against Benjamin Morrison all day.
After pushing their record to 8-3 overall, the Irish will need to take care of business at longtime rival USC if they want to finish 9-3. Though there’s no playoff conversation for Notre Dame this year, we all want coach Freeman and this team to end on a high note. USC will be another rated test for the Irish, as they’re currently 7th in the nation. But, for now, the Irish will enjoy this blowout victory.
