The Notre Dame football program has yet to land a transfer quarterback. With Hudson Card’s name being tossed around for the time being, could the team be waiting on Sam Hartman to enter the portal?

Sam Hartman is a top-tier quarterback who has been Wake Forest’s leader over the past few years. With 5 years of experience at Wake Forest, Hartman is an established quarterback and could be looking to play for an elite program before heading to the NFL. While he should be on draft radars already, leading a team like Notre Dame to playoff contention could only elevate his status.

He hasn’t made much noise since his declaration a while back when he stated he wouldn’t return to Wake Forest for a 6th year. Hartman has been fantastic in his college career so far. His completion percentage is just under 60%, and he has thrown for just under 13,000 yards in his career. Sam totaled 107 passing touchdowns with 40 interceptions.

This past year was arguably Sam’s best season in college. He had a career-high completion percentage of 63% with 3421 yards and 35 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. He has really impressed since high school, where he only received 3 offers and was rated the 767th best player in the nation according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

According to Luke Easterling of Draft Wire, Hartman is ranked as the 13th-best quarterback prospect for the 2023 draft. However, his status for next year likely depends on the feedback he gets from NFL teams regarding his draft projections. Should Hartman receive positive feedback, it wouldn’t make sense for him to prolong his college career. Most projections say he would benefit from an extra year at a big-time college program.

While he still has not decided on his future, Hartman would undoubtedly be a difference-maker for this Notre Dame football team. If he enters the portal, expect Notre Dame to pursue him.

Next. Portal gives and takes. dark
