Notre Dame football has had its fair share of negative news over the past few weeks, but that could soon change. With Sam Hartman entering the portal, it’s widely believed that his camp has reached out to Notre Dame coaches and expressed a desire to join the team.

After losing Braden Fiske to Florida State, the team has shifted their focus to the quarterback spot, the most important position on the field. But, of course, anything can happen with the current landscape of college football being so volatile. That said, Notre Dame is the favorite to land Hartman, a top-10 quarterback in the nation.

Tom Loy of 247Sports has indicated that the Irish are making a run at Sam’s co-captain at Wake Forest in Rondell Bothroyd. The talented defensive lineman has had tremendous success in college with 136 tackles and 15.5 sacks. Insiders at Demon Deacon Digest seem to think Rondell received tepid NFL interest and instead could seek a NIL deal to supplant potential NFL earnings.

Another potential Irish target at quarterback Hudson Card, committed to Purdue University to play for the Boilermakers. All signs pointed to him as one of the top targets for Notre Dame outside of Hartman. With Card off the table, the hope is Tommy Rees, and Marcus Freeman are as close to positive as they can get without tampering. Players can have “representation” reach out to a coaching staff but can’t communicate directly with the programs until entering the portal.

The Notre Dame men’s basketball team played host to the Jacksonville Dolphins and won by a score of 59-43. While it was closer than most Irish fans would’ve liked for a substantial part of the game, the team got the job done in a must-win game. Though he didn’t start the game, Marcus Hammond led the team in scoring with 15 points on 6-11 shooting. Starling and Goodwin were 2nd and 3rd on the team with 11 and 12, respectively.

Overall, it was a solid day for Fighting Irish fans. Men’s basketball got their much-needed victory. Football saw the first domino fall to land a top-10 quarterback for the next season and is on track for a great start to the off-season.
