Notre Dame football and Anthony Lucas a perfect match
By Tyler Kruse
With Anthony Lucas entering the portal and leaving Texas A&M University, the Irish should make a run at the talented defensive lineman. With Notre Dame football losing Isaiah Foskey, someone will need to pressure the quarterback consistently, and Lucas could be that guy.
He was once very high on Notre Dame football, so much so that he had them in his top-5 rankings when deciding on a final school. While it was A&M in the end, the Irish were in contention with UCLA, Alabama, and LSU. If I recall correctly, Lucas was relatively high on education, and we all know how high Notre Dame is on that as well. Marcus Freeman is a defensive specialist turned head coach; no school would fit Lucas better than Notre Dame.
Simply put, Anthony is a stud on the defensive side of the ball. Listed on the Texas A&M website at 6’6” and 270 pounds, Lucas could be the next great Irish defensive lineman to hit the NFL. He reminds me a lot of Stephon Tuitt, big and disruptive but fluid and quick with length to boot. Coming out of high school last year, Lucas was rated as the 32nd-best player in the nation and a 5-star recruit.
While they’re headed in the right direction, Notre Dame needs instant impact help on the front line. With Anthony Lucas, they’d be getting just that. So don’t get anything misconstrued; this match would be perfect if they could make it work for Anthony and Notre Dame. With Sam Hartman rumored to be joining Notre Dame, the offense is in as good of shape as ever. Watch for LSU and UCLA to be players in this one as well.
Transferring as an undergraduate can be a big hurdle at Notre Dame, but if the two sides can make things happen, all would prosper. Anthony gets a chance to shine on a team that plays on national television weekly while getting a top-tier degree. Notre Dame football would be landing the defensive help they need to push toward championship contention. It’s a match made in heaven.
