After completing his 23rd season with the Notre Dame men’s basketball program, coach Mike Brey is set to retire. The team and coach Brey announced yesterday that this season would be his last as the head coach of the Fighting Irish.

A truly incredible run as head coach will be coming to a sour end should the team continue its losing ways this season. That said, we’re all hoping they can turn things around and maybe even push for a postseason run in the NCAA tournament. While they’d need to improve their record and conference play drastically, an ACC tournament win would qualify as an automatic bid to the big dance. Either way, watching the Notre Dame men’s basketball team for the rest of this season will be bittersweet.

Regardless of how things finish, the body of work and the memories that coach Brey will have left Notre Dame will live on forever

The Notre Dame women’s basketball team narrowly escaped a win at Clemson by a score of 57-54 yesterday afternoon. Olivia Miles led the way with 18 for the Irish. The team moves to 15-2 overall while 6-1 in ACC play. Niele Ivey currently has the Irish as the 7th-ranked team in the nation.

In football news, a big-time 5-star recruit from Chicago, Justin Scott, has received an offer from Georgia putting his January 31st commitment date in limbo. While he is currently projected by numerous recruiting sites to land with the Notre Dame football program, the national champs are looming. So, it makes sense for the young man to postpone his commitment date to ensure his mind is entirely made up.

Nonetheless, the Irish remain in a solid position to secure a commitment from a guy they have on the top of their recruiting board. For Georgia, he’s clearly just another name, regardless of what they’re telling him. For Notre Dame, Justin Scott is the name.
