Notre Dame football: Support Nilka Mickey in her fight
By Tyler Kruse
It’s not too often that writing an article or piece of content on this site, as a fan of Notre Dame, rewards me for doing what I can to give back to the Irish community. With that said, I’m sure many of you may be aware of the fight Nilka Mickey, mother of Irish cornerback Jaden Mickey, is currently having with stage 4 colon cancer.
I’m praying we can do whatever we can as a community to help the Mickey family through this fight. If you or someone you know has been affected by the awful disease that is cancer, It’s always a nice reminder to see how many people are on your side. It doesn’t take much; even if it’s a prayer, your words and thoughts showing your support can only help.
From Nilka’s Gofundme page:
"“Hello, I am Shelbi Walker. In February 2020, my dear friend, Nilka Mickey, was diagnosed with stage 4 Colon Cancer. The Cancer has metastasized, and she has exhausted all treatments that are covered by her insurance. Nilka has been fighting for three years and is now in a position to go to a treatment center outside of California to fight even harder. The treatments offered at this center include traditional and alternative medicine. In order to maximize its effectiveness, Nilka has to undergo treatments every day, for 12 weeks. These treatments are expensive and because she is currently unable to work, and must relocate to Arizona, she and Lamar need your help. The Mickey’s are pillars of our community and they have always been there to support others. Now, it’s our turn to rally around them and help them raise the funds to save Nilka’s life and fight Cancer”. – Nilka’s Gofundme Page“Hello, I am Shelbi Walker. I’m thankful for the Notre Dame community, and it’s incredible to see all the support the Mickey’s have received so far. Here is the link to the Gofundme if you’re able to support; prayers to Nilka and Jaden Mickey and their family.
