Niele Ivey and Notre Dame women’s basketball dominated Georgia Tech 76-53 last night on senior night to secure their 5th consecutive victory. The Fighting Irish have been outstanding so far this year. Yesterday was no exception, as the Irish improved to an impressive 23-4 overall.

It was a very even showing from the squad across the board, as the team had 5 players in double digits, with Olivia Miles leading the charge with 13 points. The Irish struggled from beyond the arc against the Yellow Jackets but won the turnover margin by recording 9 fewer turnovers.

Sonia Citron and Kylee Watson each were 5-9 from the field with 12 points. The team can finish the season on a 6 game-winning streak if they win at Louisville on Sunday. The ACC tournament is just a couple of weeks away in Greensboro, North Carolina. Watching the Irish head into the week with this momentum could be huge for the program.

Marcus Freeman has yet to find a replacement for the talented Harry Hiestand, as Matt Luke to South Bend may be losing steam. Nothing has been called either way, but as I said in a piece yesterday, it seemed like a long shot. Still, landing someone like Luke would be a massive win for the program. Plenty of talented coaches would love to coach in South Bend; the team has to find them.

Watching these rather public attempts at candidates go awry, like Andy Ludwig and the hockey game incident, stings. Like how things played out with Tommy Rees in Tuscaloosa, typically a coach visiting campus is just due diligence with agreements already in place. That hasn’t been the case with some of Marcus’ top choices for Notre Dame football.

He’s swinging for the fences with trying to hire some of these guys, and while it stings at times, I can’t help but respect it. Let’s hope we find someone for the offensive line coach sooner rather than later.
