Brandyn Hillman has officially been released from signing his national letter of intent to play for Notre Dame football. A tough blow because he certainly has the chance to be a great collegiate player; it didn’t surprise me, at least. I took some heat on Twitter for saying I believed of the signees, Hillman was the least akin to a “Notre Dame Guy.”

He can be a great person and player but still not be the best fit for a specific school; both can be true. I couldn’t care less about the grades rumors floating around that he didn’t make the grades, and that’s why he’s being released. It seemed to me his heart was set on other schools deep down, and he potentially seemed like more of a NIL-oriented player.

Again I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Hillman as a player or a person. He seems like a great kid. But, for whatever reason, he will now be looking at other options for school and football and seems to have plenty.

Since the de-commitment, he has gained offers from Ohio State, LSU, Wisconsin, Michigan, USC, and others. There’s some smoke on social media for Michigan being a favorite though I haven’t been able to confirm any specific predictions from insiders. Either way, Hillman will have plenty of teams chasing after him until he officially decides where he’ll end up.

Again, it’s a tough loss for Notre Dame football because he seemed like a great kid and player; I’m not sure it surprises me all that much if I’m candid

The Irish have some big things to figure out at the safety position moving forward. Safety has to be their top priority in the 2024 recruiting cycle. Notre Dame football is still in a great spot, but they need depth moving forward.
