No. 3 biggest Notre Dame football NFL Draft bust of all time: Creighton Miller

1944 NFL Draft: Round 1, Pick 3

Brooklyn Tigers, 1944 (Did not play)

Legendary Notre Dame football coach Frank Leahy once told Creighton Miller that had he been born at a later date than he was, the Cleveland native would’ve been a much wealthier man than he ended up becoming.

““I have often thought that if you had been born 10 or 12 years later, you, with that rarely seen unsurpassed ability would now have an extra million in your account and my coaching record would have been considerably lower,” Leahy wrote.

Miller, who rushed for 161 yards in a 1942 game against Northwestern University, good for the single-game school record that stood for three decades, never ended up playing in the NFL — later becoming a coach and later a legal expert for the NFLPA. That was perhaps where Miller had his greatest impact because it wasn’t for playing at the NFL level.
