Notre Dame football: Isaiah Foskey to the New Orleans Saints
By Tyler Kruse
The Saints got a great pass rusher in DE Isaiah Foskey from the Notre Dame football program. Foskey is the all-time leader in sacks for the Irish and could be one of the best defensive ends from this draft with a bit more development. Foskey was the 2nd Notre Dame football player off the board in the 2nd round, as tight end Michael Mayer went just a few picks before him.
The Saints needed a lot of help up front on the defensive side of the football, and it looks like they’re targeting just that in the 2023 NFL Draft. First, they got Bryan Bresee from Clemson in the first round, and now they landed Foskey, both of whom have serious potential to be great NFL players.
His 26.5 sacks are the best all-time for the Notre Dame football program, and I’m sure he will get his fair share in the NFL in the coming years. Last year, Foskey also tallied 45 total tackles, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. He was, without question, the leader of the Irish defensive front this past season.
It may have surprised some, given that draft pundits had Foskey trending toward the later part of the 2nd round to the early part of the 3rd. That said, it doesn’t surprise me that he went early in the 2nd. He has the talent to be one of the best edge defenders in this class. New Orleans had 38 sacks last season and was one of the worst defensive fronts in the NFL.
Regardless of how things shake out in his rookie season, Foskey will be a stud for the Saints. Give him some time to develop, and he’ll be a starter for years to come in the NFL. Congratulations to Foskey and the Saints.
