With the 2023 NFL draft finishing up this past weekend, top draft sites are predicting that Joe Alt, of Notre Dame football, will be a top pick in the 2024 NFL draft. The Irish had three players drafted in the 2023 NFL draft and a whole bunch more signed to teams for training camp. In my opinion, it would’ve benefited some of the Irish players that didn’t get drafted to stick around for another year, but the past is the past.

Guys like Brandon Joseph, who was injured on and off for most of the season, could’ve benefited in a big way by sticking around one more season. When you’re on top of draft boards at your position and have a down year, that tends to cost your draft stock; in Joseph’s case, it fell out of all 7 rounds.

Still, it’s never too early to look ahead at the 2024 NFL draft, and some big draft sites predict Joe Alt will be a top pick next year. The massive and extremely talented offensive tackle has been one of the Irish’ best players for the last couple of years. Alt performed better and had higher PFF rankings than every offensive tackle selected in the 2023 NFL draft.

Not only did he receive the highest overall grade according to PFF for tackles, but he was the best run-blocker last season at his position as well. PFF has him going to the Colts with the 3rd overall pick in next year’s draft to provide some protection for newly drafted future QB Anthony Richardson.

CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson has Joe Alt going to the Tennessee Titans with the 5th overall pick and, surprisingly enough, the second offensive tackle off the board. The Draft Network also has Alt as the 2nd OT off the board in a way too early mock draft as they have him ending up with the Titans as well.

Barring catastrophic injury or a truly down season for Alt, he’s nearly a lock to be a first-round pick next season. It wouldn’t be surprising if Blake Fisher has a fantastic season and joins him in the conversation of the first couple of rounds. Be prepared for Alt to have a massive season for Notre Dame football.
