With Kennedy Urlacher committing to the Fighting Irish yesterday evening, Notre Dame football landed their first safety in the class of 2024. Urlacher followed Isiah Canion and Bryce Young as recent players to commit to the program.

While Urlacher isn’t the highest-rated in the class, he certainly has room to climb the rankings as he heads into his senior year of high school football. Out of Chandler, Arizona, Urlacher, son of Brian Urlacher, is a 6’1” and 190-pound safety that can hit hard. In his recruitment, he held offers from Miami, TCU, Washington, Wisconsin, Iowa, and others. For Kennedy, there was a clear emphasis on both football and academics, and he also showed that with offers from Penn and Dartmouth.

The next Notre Dame football target to commit will be 4-star wide receiver Micah Gilbert who numerous insiders have predicted to end up with the Fighting Irish. Gilbert will be announcing live today at 4 PM ET on 247Sports’ Youtube channel. Gilbert is a highly talented wide receiver from the same school as Bryce Young in North Carolina.

Should he commit to the Irish, Gilbert would add to an imposing group of wide receivers that will end up in South Bend. With Canion and Cam Williams in the fold, the Irish would be set at the position. Any more receivers they take would be because they’re too good to pass up and are must-haves for the class.

Gilbert holds offers from Tennessee, South Carolina, Michigan, Missouri, and Penn State, to name a few. He’s 6’3” and 200-pounds with all the tools to be a great receiver at the collegiate level and beyond.

While the Irish staff feels great about this one going into the commitment this afternoon, things can change quickly in this new recruiting landscape. Still, should Micah commit to the Irish, that’s a massive win for CJ Carr and the Notre Dame football class of 2024.
