Notre Dame football has, believe it or not, never played these FBS teams
Notre Dame football vs Sun Belt
Only once has Notre Dame played a Sun Belt squad in its storied history — and it was during the inaugural season for that school, Marshall, in the conference after making the jump from Conference USA months prior.
The SBC is very much a new frontier for the Fighting Irish, who have a tendency not to play schools south of the Mason-Dixon line unless there’s an ACC affiliation. Tennessee State in 2023 notwithstanding.
With that now known, the total list of Sun Belt schools that have yet to play Notre Dame is 13:
Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, James Madison, Old Dominion, Arkansas State, Louisiana, Louisiana–Monroe, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Texas State, and Troy.
Troy, South Alabama, and James Madison could all be the program that represents the SBC and gives the conference a chance to be slotted up against Notre Dame when the CFP expands given their current trajectories.
