Notre Dame football is undefeated against these FBS teams
Notre Dame football vs The American
Thanks to the Notre Dame football team spending the entirety of their existence as an independent team, they’ve often been able to play teams multiple times that other schools can’t.
That’s why it might surprise you to see how many times they’ve played and beaten a squad like Tulane and Rice over the years. There are few other teams outside of the conference itself that can boast the number of wins the Irish have over some of these schools.
Rice: The Rice Owls have long been one of those teams that bigger schools love to put on the schedule as fodder. The Irish are no different. They’ve played and beaten Rice five times and only once have the Owls managed two touchdowns. In that 2014 tilt, they still got blown out 48-17. This series started in 1915 with an ND 55-2 win, was followed up with Rice losing 28-2 in 1973 and 10-3 in 1974, and crescendoed with a 54-11 Rice loss in 1988.
Tulane: The Green Wave have the honor of being tied for most times they’ve been beaten by the Fighting Irish without scoring a single win for themselves. The Golden Domers are currently 8-0 against Tulane. Of course, it’s been a long time since the two schools saw each other. The series was an annual event from 1944 to 1950. However, then the two schools took a long hiatus before meeting again in 1969 and 1971. Tulane has never scored more than 9 points in a game and the current average score is Notre Dame 34, Green Wave 4.
Temple: The youngest of the three series between Notre Dame football and American conference teams, the Owls are 0-3 after basically playing every other year from 2013 to 2017. They lost the opener 28-6 but bounced back in 2015 and almost won, eventually falling 24-20. The final game so far of this series saw Notre Dame football win 49-16 in 2017.
