Notre Dame football vs the Pac-12

Two of the Fighting Irish’s biggest historical rivals come out of the Pac 12. Of course, Notre Dame football isn’t actually undefeated against either of those rivals, even if they hold very impressive winning records against USC (50-38-5) and Stanford (22-14).

The Golden Domers have had quite a bit of success against a number of other Pac-12 programs, including one of the newer entrants in the conference, even if that is largely thanks to not having played them all that much.

Utah: The Utes joined the Pac-12 officially in 2011. One year before that big-time step in the program’s history, they faced off against Notre Dame … and got curb-stomped to the tune of 28-3. Now that Utah is a bit more of a power program, it will be interesting to see if they might be more open to a rematch.

California: While the Irish have seen their fair share of trouble against Stanford and USC, there are two California schools that haven’t posed near those problems. Cal is one of them. The two schools faced off five times in the 1950s and 1960s and the Golden Bears never scored more than 8 points losing 28-6 (1959), 21-7 (1960), 48-6 (1965), and 41-8 (1967). Interestingly enough, a bad Cal team gave Notre Dame everything it could handle last season in a 24-17 loss.

UCLA: The Bruins are the other California school in the Pac-12 the Irish boast an undefeated record against. The games were certainly closer than Cal’s but they also haven’t played since 2007. The Irish won 27-12 and 24-0 in 1963 and 1964 before defeating the Bruins 20-17 in 2006 and 20-6 in 2007.

Washington: The Huskies have the distinction of being tied with Tulane as far as most losses to Notre Dame without a single victory. Washington is currently 0-8, though they did take perennial power to the limit the last time they saw them in 2009 thanks to a 37-30 OT loss.

Washington State: The state of Washington is 0-10 on the FBS level against Notre Dame football. Of course, the Cougars have only played them twice and did get to OT in their first 2003 matchup but lost 40-14 in the 2009 rematch.
