The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will face their first road test of the year as they travel to Raleigh NC to take on the NC State Wolfpack.

Notre Dame is preparing for their third game of the 2023 season this week. The Fighting Irish will be facing the NC State Wolfpack and a hostile crowd for their first road game of the year.

The Irish have allowed only six total points to their first two opponents this season, but undoubtedly the Wolfpack will be a step up from both Navy and Tennessee State.

NC State finished the 2022 season tied for fourth in the ACC Atlantic division with an 8-5 overall record, going 4-4 in the ACC. Their only contest in the 2023 season so far was a 24-14 win over UConn in a Thursday matchup last week.

Notre Dame vs NC State prediction

In the first two games, Notre Dame looks like they picked up exactly where they left off in the second half of the 2022 season. While the first two games haven’t exactly been against elite competition, the Irish played nearly flawless football and did exactly what they were expected to do.

NC State may be a slightly tougher opponent, particularly on defense, which has been their calling card for much of the Dave Doeren era. Hartman may not have quite as many easy throws at his disposal, so the Irish running game will need to be at peak performance level.

Barring a meltdown or a lot of unforced errors on the part of the Irish, this should be a game Notre Dame handles. With two top-flight defenses out there, the whole game may take only two hours to play.
