Don’t count Mike Goolsby among those who believe Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman is a good in-game head coach following the Louisville loss.

Since the Notre Dame football loss to Louisville on Saturday night, there’s been plenty of blame and finger-pointing at the Fighting Irish coaching staff. Fans are obviously not happy about the team’s performance, especially on offense.

But fans aren’t the only ones who aren’t impressed with Notre Dame football’s play of late. Former Fighting Irish team captain-turned-college-football-analyst, Mike Goolsby let Marcus Freeman have it with both barrels on Sunday evening’s episode of “The Mike Goolsby Show.

He also didn’t wast any time getting into it. Not long after the opening speeches for the episode, Goolsby said that while he believes Freeman is a great “face of the program” coach, he’s not a very good coach when it comes to in-game stuff.

Goolsby did start by saying that he is ready to “take his lumps” with Freeman as he learns on the job. He followed that up with some pretty critical thoughts, however.

"“Is Marcus Freeman a good head coach? In-game, no! He’s not.”"

As Goolsby spoke, the show’s co-host, Mike Singer could be seen become visibly uncomfortable. Perhaps because he agreed with the former Notre Dame football player who was about to make it clear that right now, things are not headed in the right direction for the Fighting Irish.

“He’s a world-class offseason coach,” Goolsby continued. “All the media stuff and the recruiting pickups and all that. I mean, that’s why he was brought here to be the face of the program, and a big component to being a face of the program that kind of bears itself out in recruiting, but in-game operations; it’s …  like yikes.”

Notre Dame football coach called out by former captain

It doesn’t appear as though Goolsby arrived at that position just based on the Louisville loss either. Earlier in the episode, he explained why, last week he’d said that the Notre Dame football team was going to lose to Louisville.

He added that when he was watching the game against Ohio State and that he wasn’t all that thrilled that it took a last-minute drive to beat the Bluedevils.

Goolsby threw the final shovel of dirt on Freeman’s coffin at the end of the rant when he talked about Duke’s Mike Elko and noted that people were calling Elko a world-class coach. As opposed to the Notre Dame football coach, “nobody’s calling Marcus Freeman a world-class coach.”
