A former Notre Dame football player has found himself a new home and on Saturday, he managed to shine with his new team in its biggest game of the year.

Count Jacob Lacey among the high-profile stars that Notre Dame football coaches likely wish they could have kept in South Bend. However, some injury issues, as well as a different kind of gameplan eventually made the defensive lineman decide to leave for brighter shores.

Specifically, after three years in the Notre Dame football program, Lacey decided to transfer to the Oklahoma Sooners this offseason. It appears that Lacey made the right decision for himself.

On Saturday, the defensive player, who was a 4-star defender out of high school, played in the biggest game of every year for the Sooners. He showed up and showed up big in the Red River Rivalry.

Lacey not only served as a captain for OU in their rivalry game against Texas, but he recorded four tackles and a sack. Considering that the Sooners won a tight ballgame, 34-30 to stay undefeated, it’s a safe bet that his contributions could be seen as potentially game-changing.

After the game, Lacey took to social media to express his gratitude for getting to play the game of football at all. In the process he made it clear that leaving Notre Dame football for the Big 12 school was certainly the right decision for him.

It’s worth pointing out that Lacey’s big game against Texas was truly impressive. On the year, he has just 10 tackles and this was the first sack of the season.

Over four years with Notre Dame football he had 35 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Of those sacks, Lacey collected two of them in 2022. Those quarterback sacks were 2 of his 5 total tackles last season in extremely limited playing time.
