Bob Davie led the Fighting Irish to 7-6 and a bowl game in his first season after Lou Holtz ended his career with an 8-3 record the season before. The Fighting Irish did not go to a bowl game in 1996. Davie would go 0-3 in three bowl games in across his five-year tenure.
