One Notre Dame football broadcaster has taken quite a bit of criticism this season and nepotism is being blamed for his station in life now.

While Notre Dame football’s win over the USC Trojans was one of the better moments of the last few years, there were more than a few Fighting Irish fans who weren’t thrilled with the way the game was broadcasted. Chief among the complains was that CBS Sports broadcaster Jac Collinsworth simply wasn’t up to the massive job.

Adding insult to injury for the Notre Dame football broadcaster and Notre Dame alum, Collinsworth was at the center of an article from Awful Announcing talking about the negatives of nepotism in sports broadcasting.

Jac is, of course, NFL broadcaster Chris Collinsworth’s son. And while there are some fans who have a problem with Chris from time to time, he’s put in his time and earned his stature in sports media in a way that many don’t believe Jac has done yet.

The main argument in the Awful Announcing post was thus:

"“The elder Collinsworth is one of the best in the business, and maybe Jac will get there someday, but Saturday proved the 28-year-old is still very much a work in progress, failing to meet the moment in his biggest assignment to date.Naturally, Collinsworth’s relative lack of polish has sparked a larger discussion about nepotism in sports media, with many questioning his credentials while wondering if Collinsworth is qualified for his current role, leapfrogging more deserving broadcasters on the strength of his last name. Not only was Collinsworth ill-equipped for primetime, but his rapid ascent presents problematic optics that NBC will now have to answer for, fast-tracking a novice announcer in desperate need of seasoning.”"

Notre Dame football analyst blasted by fans as well

When talking about Jac Collinsworth not being able to rise to the occasion, it seems as if most Notre Dame football fans just believe he’s kind of boring to listen to.

Others believed Collinsworth and his color analyst, Jason Garrett just didn’t seem like they should have been broadcasting a Notre Dame football matchup against long-time rival USC in a battle of Top 25 teams.

Whatever the reasons for Collinsworth being “the man” calling Notre Dame football, it’s clear that he’s got some improvements to make before he’s embraced by the Fighting Irish faithful. Or members of the sports media in general.
