It’s possible the Notre Dame Football team is going to have to replace one of its top assistants if one analyst is correct.

The news that Iowa fired offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz on Monday rocked the college football world, not because people were shocked but because people have been waiting for it to happen for weeks if not years.

While Notre Dame Football fans might not care all that much about what Iowa’s doing right now, they might want to tune in soon. It’s possible that when head coach Kirk Ferentz decides to hire a new OC over the offseason, he’ll come calling for Fighting Irish quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli.

The rising coaching star was named the Notre Dame Football quarterbacks coach last winter, but one analyst believes his stay in South Bend could be quick. Brandon Marcelo of 247Sports put together a list of the guys he thinks Iowa will pursue and Guidugli is near the top of the list.

"“Gino Guidugli led Cincinnati’s successful offense for five seasons and the Bearcats became the first Group of Five program to reach the College Football Playoff in 2021. Guidugli is now the quarterbacks coach at Notre Dame and is on his way to becoming a play-caller somewhere soon. He coached Desmond Ridder to AAC player of the year honors in back-to-back seasons as the quarterback broke Guidugli’s own school records at Cincinnati, where he played from 2001 through 2004.”"

Notre Dame Football could be looking for QB coach soon

As Marcelo pointed out, it doesn’t seem as though the Fighting Irish are going to be able to hang on to Guidugli that long. He landed in South Bend thanks in part because of the shift in the Cincinnati coaching staff after Luke Fickell left for Wisconsin.

Of course, when they hired him as a QB coach, they probably hoped he’d be a part of Notre Dame Football for more than a season.
