Notre Dame Football is likely going to the transfer portal for its replacement for Sam Barnhart and the Tulane Green Wave might have just the guy.

The Sam Hartman era of Notre Dame Football has been a shortlived one. The Fighting Irish have always known they were getting one shot with the former Wake Forest quarterback and then it would be time to find the next guy.

Just last week, Notre Dame Football head coach Marcus Freeman talked about where the coaches heads are at when it comes to QB1 in 2024. While he left the door open for one of the Irish’s young quarterbacks to step up, it seemed like he was leaning towards hitting the transfer portal one more time.

If Notre Dame Football does decide to look to the portal, it’s possible that the Irish might go after Duke’s Riley Leonard, who is expected to go elsewhere. However, if Leonard doesn’t transfer, or transfers somewhere else, then Michael Pratt could be one heck of a Plan B. And perhaps he should be promoted to Plan A.

On Thursday, 247Sports Clint Brewster reported that Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt is expected to transfer from Tulane to a Power 5 program in order to help his draft stock. The idea is that once Pratt plays for a bigger school in 2024, he’d likely be a first round pick in that year’s NFL Draft, rather than a 2nd to 4th round pick this year.

Notre Dame Football would be an interesting landing spot for Michael Pratt

Pratt has the kind of arm that Notre Dame Football covets. Last year he threw for over 3,000 yards, 27 touchdowns and just 5 INTs. This year he’s got 1,384 yards, 14 TDs and just 3 INTs. He’s also completing more than 70 percent of his passes.

He’s also deadly with his legs running for over 400 yards a year ago and 200 so far this season.

The question for Notre Dame Football is going to be whether they can lure the Virginia product away from the SEC should someone from that conference come calling.

That might actually be the secret weapon for the Irish, since they’ll be spending plenty of time playing teams that Pratt grew up watching in the ACC. If he does decide to leave the Green Wave next season, Notre Dame Football should wave hello to Michael Pratt as a possible Sam Hartman replacement.
