The Notre Dame football team might be getting one of its better players back just in time to finish the regular season against Stanford.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have one more game in the regular season. I would be a bit embarrassing if they messed around and found a way to lose to Stanford. Obviously, that’s something that could happen, as witnessed by the outcome of this game a year ago.

In order to avoid an embarrassing Notre Dame football loss, the irish are going to need all hands on deck. That includes their starting center, who missed the Wake Forest game.

Zeke Correll was still in concussion protocol earlier this week. However, during one of his last press conferences leading up to the game against the Cardinal, head coach Marcus Freeman made it clear he thinks Correll will be back by Saturday night.

“We expect him to be back this week,” Freeman said, “but that’s up to the doctor’s decision.”

Notre Dame football likes his replacement

In place of Correll last weekend, the Irish went with Ashton Craig and he certainly seemed like he filled in well. But if Notre Dame has to decide between the guy that’s been the starter for most of the season, and a young lineman making his second start, it’s a no-brainer.

Of course, if Correll turns out not to be ready to return, then Freeman was clear that he has no problem going with Craig.

"“We have a lot of confidence in Ashton. I’ve seen it in practice. I’ve seen it just from talking with [offensive line] coach [Joe] Rudolph. I’m really proud of the way he performed in his opportunity he had here on Saturday. I’m really positive about the outlook of our future at the center position.”"

Whether or not Zeke Correll is really ready to go for Notre Dame football, it appears we’ll wait until kickoff to see.
