Holy Cross transfer could be what the Notre Dame football doctor ordered
The Notre Dame football team is going to be shopping for a transfer quarterback and Holy Cross might have exactly what they need.
Sam Hartman has exactly one game left as a member of the Notre Dame football team. That’s assuming he actually plays in the bowl game. Guys going pro skipping bowl games that aren’t part of the playoffs is pretty regular these days.
Either way, with one game left on the 2023 slate, it’s just about time for the Fighting Irish to start shopping for another quarterback. There are bound to be more than a few in the portal that will fit their needs. There are plenty more that won’t be the right fit.
Let’s count Holy Cross quarterback Matthew Sluka among those who just might be a heck of a fit. Even if his game is a little more run-heavy than the Golden Domers seem to want. Sluka’s got the kind of talent that it would seem like he could make Gerad Parker’s offense work, even if he runs a bit less than he did at Holy Cross.
Sluka has thrown for 5,896 yards, 59 touchdowns, and just 15 interceptions. He’s also a great threat on the ground, having run for 3,579 yards and 38 touchdowns.
Notre Dame football could go after Holy Cross quarterback
It’s worth pointing out that while Sam Hartman didn’t run for thousands of yards, he did run a decent amount with Wake Forest. Sluka would take the quarterback run game to a new level. Maybe to a level that could also take the Notre Dame football offense to the next level.
Some Irish fans might be a bit worried about grabbing an FCS quarterback to run this program. Though he’s gone up against FBS programs as well. He’s played pretty well too.
This year, against Army, Sluka threw for 156 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 171 yards.
Sluka might seem like a bit of a longshot for the Notre Dame football program, but with talk that Riley Leonard could be a transfer portal target, it’s seems likely the Irish are looking for a dual-threat QB. The Holy Cross signal-caller certainly fits that bill.
