The Notre Dame football team nabbed one of the more talented quarterbacks out of Nebraska and did it without using a scholarship.

While the focus for Notre Dame football these days is all about trying to get a transfer portal quarterback, Marcus Freeman and company are doing a nice job of multitasking. Earlier this week, the Fighting Irish nabbed a 2025 quarterback commit in Anthony Rezac who has enough talent to be considered a wildcard.

Rezac, a walk-on quarterback from Omaha Westside did have offers from several Division 1 schools, though other than Air Force and Army, the rest of the his scholarship offers were of the FCS variety.

That doesn’t mean that the dual-threat quarterback doesn’t have talent. He’s fresh off leading his Omaha Westside squad to a state title. The Warriors were not really challenged on the way to that title and romped 56-0 over Elkhorn South in the championship game.

Rezac threw for 2,300 yards and 30 touchdowns to just five interceptions. He also ran for 900 yards and 15 TDs. Now he’s bringing his speed and athleticism to South Bend.

He’s actually just the latest walk-on that looks like he could eventually be a decent contributor for the Notre Dame football team. That’s one area that Marcus Freeman and company have managed to excel.

Just last cycle the staff was able to convince players like wide receiver Jordan Faison, safety Luke Talich and tight end Henry Garrity to opt for the Irish despite having other offers on the table. Faison for one, finished the year with 14 catches for 207 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Notre Dame football is a family affair for Anthony Rezac

One of the reasons the Fighting Irish were able to lure the talented quarterback to South Bend was because they already had his brother, Teddy Rezac in the fold.

Teddy is a member of the Notre Dame football team’s 2024 recruiting class. He was more actively pursued by Nebraska but eventually chose the Golden Domers. Now he’ll have his bro on the team in the near future.
