Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish assistant coach Brian Mason has moved onto the NFL and on Sunday he had himself quite the day.

Former Notre Dame football coach Brian Mason was only in South Bend for one season, but he made quite a name for himself in that time. His fingerprints on the Irish special teams in 2022 was one that won’t soon be forgotten.

In his one year in town, he led a unit that blocked seven punts (two more than any other team in the country) and forged a Notre Dame Fighting Irish special teams group that broke a pattern of mediocrity.

That performance earned him a job offer with the Indianapolis Colts. This Sunday it appears his teaching really started to take hold for the AFC playoff contender.

The Colts were in Tennessee this past weekend to take on the Titans. In the third quarter Mason’s punt block stood tall.

The former Notre Dame Fighting Irish coach’s unit blocked and returned not one but two straight Tennesssee punts for touchdowns.

The ex-Irish coach’s team is now 7-5 on the season and looks like it’s set for a playoff run in the final five weeks of the regular season. Brian Wilson looks like someone who is quite the innovator when it comes to special teams.
