The Notre Dame football team isn’t just looking to add a transfer QB and now it looks like it might be landing one of the better kickers on the market. Mitch Jeter would be a more than adequate replacement for Spencer Shrader.

Jeter entered the transfer portal early last week from South Carolina. It’s not entirely clear why considering the kind of career he’s had for the Gamecocks.

Whatever the reason, Tom Loy of 247Sports recently put in a Crystal Ball for Jeter to end up in South Bend. The kicker is one of the better ones in the country with the kind of strong leg that could be a nice complement to an offense that looks to be revamped in 2024.

Jeter took a bit of a step back in 2023 from his near-perfect 2022 performance. Perhaps that’s why he’s on the market for a new home. Maybe he’s just tired of playing for an also ran like South Carolina.

In 2023, Jeter hit 12-of-14 field goals, including anything inside of 50 yards. He was just 1-of-3 from 50+ but that’s still plenty impressive. It’s worth pointing out that Shrader was 4-for-6 from that distance.

In 2022, Mitch Jeter hit all 11 field goals he tried, including both from 50+ with his career long being 53 yards. Shrader’s is 54 yards.

Notre Dame football trending for talented kicker

It’s clear that the Fighting Irish are looking to add the final pieces to a squad they believe could lead them to the playoffs in next season. If Riley Leonard can come in at quarterback, the offense could take a few steps forward.

The Notre Dame football team’s offense already added a go-to weapon for Leonard, with Kris Mitchell coming in from FIU. They’re also hot on the heels of Clemson transfer wide receiver Beaux Collins.

Adding a player like Mitch Jeter to the Notre Dame football mix is all about shoring things up and ensuring there are no holes. Now it’s about waiting for Jeter to pull the trigger on a commitment.

What is Plan B if Riley Leonard isn’t in the cards?. dark. Next
