3 running backs that could help create Notre Dame's next great RB duo

Notre Dame has done well with a running back duo and should look to continue that next season.

Notre Dame has now gone from having two amazing running backs that created an unstoppable run game, to then having one after Jeremiyah Love declared for the NFL Draft, to now losing both to the big leagues.

Love's counterpart, Jadarian Price, has now also declared for the NFL Draft, and both players are looking like the top running backs in the draft class. While of course Notre Dame fans are ecstatic to watch both Love and Price on Sundays now, that leaves the Notre Dame run game in the solid hands of Aneyas Williams.

Williams is a great running back and has gotten the chance to learn a lot from Love and Price. In the 2025 season, Williams still had 224 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns, even behind Love and Price. However, Notre Dame has shown they are at their best when they have a strong running back duo.

So, while the job is most certainly going to be Williams' next season, here are some other running backs who have announced their intent to enter the transfer portal who could pair well with him.

Jahiem White

Jahiem White has spent three seasons with West Virginia before announcing his intent to enter the transfer portal. White's first two seasons with the Mountaineers were pretty good, both having more than 800 rushing yards and 11 total touchdowns. However, in Week 2 of the 2025 season, white suffered a season-ending knee injury.

White has two years so eligibility left and could pair well with Williams, as both are not the most dynamic players, but could be a really great one-two punch that would keep defenses on their toes.

Dylan Edwards

The next school Dylan Edwards goes to will be his third in four years. Edwards started his career with Deion Sanders at Colorado, but after being the leading rusher for the Buffaloes his first season, he chose to enter the transfer portal. Edwards chose to return home and transfer to Kansas State, where he spent the next two seasons with the Wildcats.

In 2025, Edwards dealt with a nagging ankle injury that kept him out for most of the season. Before the season was even over, Edwards had left the team and announced his intention to enter the transfer portal. While he has moved around a lot, Edwards is a great running back, with solid vision and a second gear that most defenders can't match.

Edwards would be a great matchup with Williams, as he can be the small, quicker running back to Williams being more of a rough and tough guy.

CJ Baxter

CJ Baxter has been at Texas since 2023, but has only played two seasons, missing the 2024 season with a knee injury. However, as a true freshman, Baxter ran for 659 yards and five rushing touchdowns in what was a pass-heavy offense for the Longhorns.

Notre Dame can afford to lean more on CJ Carr in the 2026 season and take some pressure off the running backs, which is something Baxter is used to. Granted, he is still figuring things out with that knee, but he could be a solid addition to Notre Dame next season.
