The days of Jeremiyah Love and Jadairan Price carrying the ball are officially over, and both are officially in the NFL after being first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. Now, the Irish will have to look for their next dynamic runner, and Aneyas Williams is ready to answer the call.

The probable Notre Dame starter at running back had a fantastic spring ball season, even while wearing the non-contact jersey due to recovery from right elbow surgery. Williams will come into the 2026 season most likely as the start for the Irish in the backfield, and he is ready for his opportunity.

After trying to be lured away through the transfer portal in the offseason, Williams chose to stick with the Irish, knowing what he can do with this team. In the Blue-Gold Game on Saturday, Williams showcased just how much playing for this team means to him with one gesture that fans should take note of.

During Notre Dame's Blue-Gold Game on Saturday, Aneyas William didn't wear the red non-contact jersey he had been wearing throughout spring practices. This wasn't a decision from the coaching staff, but one from Williams.

"The position that I’m finally in, that I’ve been waiting for the last two years, I couldn’t just sit there and watch," Williams said on the matter.

Williams is finally getting his opportunity to prove to Freemans and Notre Dame fans that he can be the guy the Irish need to step up in the backfield. With Notre Dame going through a major change at the position, losing Love and Price, Williams can be the answer the Irish are looking for.

Choosing to actually play in the spring game instead of sitting out is something head coach Marcus Freeman has to have noticed, and it is certainly something fans did as well.
