Another College Football Playoff ranking, another week of debate over how Notre Dame is higher in the rankings than Miami. On Tuesday night, CFP Committee Chair Hunter Yurachek offered up a new explanation for why the Fighting Irish are in better standing than the Hurricanes.

Many, many Miami fans and supporters have argued for weeks that the 'Canes should be higher than the Irish because they won the head-to-head matchup. Yurachek said on Tuesday that for now, the committee isn't really using that win. Though it could eventually.

Yurachek said they put the teams into "pods," and because Notre Dame and Miami are far apart in the rankings, they're not in the same pod. However, the Hurricanes keep winning, and they'll creep up right next to the Irish. Should that happen, and they're in the same pod, the door appears to be open for the Hurricanes to jump Marcus Freeman and his crew.

CFP chair says Miami and Notre Dame will be compared head to head if they get into the same 'pod'

Speaking to Rece Davis of ESPN, Yurachek outlined that for now, the Irish are ranked ahead of the Hurricanes because the ACC school has worse losses on its resume to SMU and Louisville, both unranked at the time.

"I think, when you look, Rece, at Notre Dame and Miami, we really compare the losses of those two teams. Miami has lost to two unranked teams. Notre Dame has lost to two teams—those are ranked in our top 13."

"So we really haven't compared those two teams. They haven't been in similar comparative pools to date. But Miami is creeping up into that range where they will be compared to Notre Dame if something happens above them."

While this argument might not sit well with fans who want Mario Christobal's crew ranked higher now, it indicates unequivocally that they will be, both Miami and Notre Dame finish 10-2 at the end of the regular season.
