What exactly is Marcus Freeman thinking here?

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are going through quite the change at the quarterback position this offseason, and it is truly anyone's job. The battle has truly come down to two potential starters, and that is CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey.

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman joined Former Alabama quarterback and ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy on his podcast Always College Football and talked about the upcoming season. Of course, the quarterback battle between Carr and Minchey came up, which Freeman confirmed are the top two guys.

Freeman gushed over how awesome it is to see the two guys continue to compete for the starting position. He talked about how throughout spring ball, both guys showed they have a high ceiling when it comes to development, and that while both do some things really well, they do them differently. Freeman's main focus, though, when it comes to picking between the two, is who is going to give the team the best chance to beat opponents.

Fall camp is when those questions will be answered, and only the two guys competing will be able to give those answers with their play. However, Freeman did hint at potentially using both quarterbacks throughout the season, and even said both could be on the field at the same time.

"You are going to look for any way to help your team, and if that means you use two quarterbacks for certain situations, then you are going to find a way to use two quarterbacks," Freeman said on the podcast. "There might be two quarterbacks on the field at the same time, who knows?"

A two-quarterback system would certainly be interesting, especially talking about how Freeman said both guys do different things very well and very differently. Being able to have two guys on the roster who can step out on the field at any time and lead the team means Notre Dame currently has an embarrassment of riches.

Freeman isn't totally opening the door on using two quarterbacks, but he certainly isn't closing it either.
