Notre Dame decided to play with fire this season by starting off 0-2, with its first loss coming to a ranked Miami team and then a ranked Texas A&M team. The loss to the Aggies isn't looking so bad right now because they are currently the No. 3 team in the nation and leading the SEC.
However, that loss to Miami just keeps looking worse and worse as the Hurricanes have just dropped their second game on the season in their last three games. Miami at one point was ranked No. 2 in the country before falling to an unranked Louisville team, and after finally sliding back into the Top 10 at No. 10, they dropped another game on Saturday to an unranked SMU team.
So Notre Dame's loss to Miami isn't looking so quality anymore, and with both the Hurricanes and the Fighting Irish having two losses and both still competing for a playoff spot, things could get dicey for Notre Dame. The committee could look at both teams and give Miami the edge with the head-to-head win, but one ESPN analyst thinks the committee could think differently.
ESPN football analyst Heather Dinich believes the committee is looking at Miami and Notre Dame very differently because, since the start of the season, both teams have moved in opposite directions.

Yes, Notre Dame lost to Texas A&M, but again, the Aggies are undefeated and looking like the top team in a very competitive SEC right now. However, since that big win at the beginning of the season, Miami has lost to two unranked teams and struggled at times to even get the win in the end.
Since the loss to Miami, Notre Dame has gone on a six-game win streak with a ranked win over No. 20 USC and also very convincing wins over teams they were heavily favored against. Notre Dame has done what it had to do in order to stay in contention for the playoff, and the committee could reward the Fighting Irish for doing just that.
