Benjamin Morrison has had a bit of an up and down year with the Notre Dame football team. The star cornerback came back with high hopes both for his final season in South Bend and for the Irish in general.
Then he suffered another injury that cut his season short. At the NFL Combine this week, Morrison said that he did briefly think about coming back for another season in 2025. He almost certainly would have gotten it due to the injuries he suffered in back-to-back seasons but in the end, the cornerback decided it was time to try out the NFL.
Speaking at the NFL Combine on Thursday, the Notre Dame football star said he might have come back for one more year if his injury had been more serious. But when it was clear that he will be able to show what he can do to NFL front offices this spring, he decided it was “time to go for it.”
Notre Dame football star corner considered returning to South Bend
Whether or not that was a good decision or not is still very much up in the air at this point. Following his season ending hip surgery, most mock drafts still had him looking like a first round pick.
However, he’s started to fall a bit in in the eyes of some experts. That in includes Mel Kiper who had him in the first round and now seems to think he’ll be a second rounder at best.
For his part, he seems unperturbed by that and believes he can prove he’s worth an earlier pick. He’ll be showing that later this spring as he also said he won’t be working out at the combine. Instead the Notre Dame football star will be holding private workouts that will show he’s completely healed from the surgery and ready to roll in the NFL.
