Fall camp is underway in South Bend, and while everyone is so focused on the quarterback battle going on, one young wide receiver is working to secure his spot in the starting lineup.
Freshman wide receiver Elijah Burress, a former 4-star recruit in the Class of 2025, is putting in the work in practice and making some big plays. The young pass catcher is making sure he makes the most of every rep he receives, whether it is against a first-team guy or a walk-on on the practice team. Burress wants to show his talent in any way he can.
In the video below, Burress shows amazing route-running abilities and makes a great move on the defender that totally opens himself up. It looks so easy for the New Jersey native. If Burress can show he can work with either quarterback, he could become a real asset for the Fighting Irish this season and maybe even make an impact early on, too.

Burress is just so smooth with it for a first-year wideout. It comes naturally to him. He's got a chance to crack the rotation. pic.twitter.com/fBN1VIzJNe
Burress came to Notre Dame ranked as the No. 240 player in the Class of 2025, the No. 28 wide receiver in the class, and the No. 5 player in the state of New Jersey. Notre Dame could be a very run-heavy team this year again, with Jeremiyah Love returning and the QB situation still unsettled, but if Burress can show he can be a sure thing for the Fighting Irish, that could change.
Whether it is CJ Carr or Kenny Minchey, Burress needs to show that being on the field is only going to help Notre Dame, and if he can make himself stand out even more in fall camp, Marcus Freeman could have no choice but to play the young wideout.
Fall camp is still in its early stages, and there is still a lot of time for players to stand out, but the season is approaching fast, and Burress needs to show he can do anything on the field he is asked of if he wants to secure his spot in the starting lineup.
