As the Notre Dame football team prepares for a Navy team that is going to try and run the ball up and down the field, the Irish know their running game is plenty good too. In fact, Notre Dame has the 17th best rushing offense in the country and is tied for the 8th best team in rushing touchdowns with 22.

Jadarian Price has certainly done his part in helping the Irish to get there. While he’s second among running backs with 49 carries, he’s got 329 yards and has a team-leading 6.7 yards per carry. He’s also got the longest touchdown run of the season, a 70-yard scamper.

All those numbers are impressive, but it’s how the Notre Dame football star has racked them up that’s really eye-brow raising. 263 of Jadarian Price's 329 rushing yards have come after contact. You read that correctly. All but 66 yards this season have come after contact.

Notre Dame football running back getting the ‘gritty’ yards

That’s not a mistake. Price went out of his way to make that a part of his game this year.

“Since fall camp, my personal goal has been getting the dirty, gritty yards,” Price told the media this week. “I feel I’ve continued to do that. Just the tough yards. I think as a running group overall, we’re top in the country for yards after contact and we’re going to continue to do that. I’m up there too with yards after contact and I think that’s a good testament to how I practice and how we practice.”

The Notre Dame football team is going to need that output against Navy, in one of the toughest tests for the team this season.
