While there wasn't any genuine concern over whether Notre Dame would topple Stanford, there was still plenty of drama in the middle of Saturday night's ultra-late game. Not long after Jermiyah Love burnished his Heisman campaign with the Fighting Irish's first drive, where he had 54 yards and a touchdown, the star running back was injured and had to leave the game.

On the Irish's second drive of the game, Love was brought down by a crowd of Cardinal, and one defender's knee landed directly on his rib cage. After the rest of the group got up, Love remained on the ground and eventually had to head to the medical tent.

For several long moments, Notre Dame faithful were holding their collective breath, wondering if perhaps the injury to Love would be one that takes him out of the playoff picture. However, after going into the locker room to get some special padding, he came back to join his teammates.

Jeremiyah Love assures Notre Dame fans his injury isn't serious

As ESPN's Stormy Normandt reported: "Jeremiyah Love went back to the locker room to get fitted for a rib protector. He's warming up, did high knees, gave a thumbs up to the crowd when asked if he was OK, and did a King-Kong pounding of his chest."

Adding to the good news, after the game, reports circulated that Love's X-rays and tests came back negative and that he has some bruised ribs.

While Love didn't play much after the injury, he played enough to show that he could, in fact, play more this season should the Irish be allowed to do so. With his team up 35-3 at the half, there simply wasn't a call for him to get more carries and continue his Heisman campaign.

With worries over Jeremiyah Love's health out of the way, Notre Dame fans can now direct their angst at how the College Football Playoffs bracket will shake out come Tuesday.
