There are few former Notre Dame football players who have had quite the recent NFL career that defensive back Kyle Hamilton has managed to fashion for himself. Despite not having been a pro for very long, he’s considered one of the best safeties in the league.
That was demonstrated again on Wednesday afternoon when Hamilton scored himself a new contract from the Baltimore Ravens. This new deal demonstrates that his team not only appreciates what he’s done for them so far, but that they think he’s going to continue doing it and want to make sure he does it for them as long as possible.
Former Notre Dame DB Kyle Hamilton earns contract option, long-term deal likely
Not only did the former Notre Dame football star get his 5th year option picked up by the Ravens, but when the team announced that move, it also made it clear the intent was to work with him on a long term deal.
In three years in the NFL, Hamilton has played in 48 games, starting 36. He's racked up 250 tackles -- 186 solo -- and has 7 sacks. He's intercepted 5 passes, one for a touchdown, and forced 4 fumbles. He's also recovered a fumble.
The Ravens worked him into the starting spot slowly in his rookie season, but he’s made it clear to them they can’t afford to keep him out of the starting lineup at this point in his career.
Barring injury, it looks like Hamilton will be playing in the Charm City for quite some time. This comes after a Notre Dame football career that saw him rack up 138 tackles, 8 interceptions and 16 passes defended in just three seasons in South Bend.
