After a big weekend in the NFL draft with not just one, but two first-round picks on night one, the Irish got to showcase the talent of players still in the program with the annual Blue-Gold Game. Players all over the roster impressed, from quarterback CJ Carr to wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald.

Fans from all over came to see what the state of the Notre Dame football program looks like post-Jeremiah Love and College Football Playoff snub. Head coach Marcus Freeman had to have been happy with what was shown on the field, and the news he got when he got off the field.

4-star safety Zayden Gamble commits to Notre Dame out of the Class of 2027

Shortly after the Blue-Gold Game commenced, Freeman got some good news on the recruiting trail with four-star safety Zayden Gamble choosing Notre Dame for his college career. Gamble chose the Irish over his other top schools, Ohio State, Miami, and Florida.

The Ft Lauderdale native is choosing to head North to South Bend rather than stay in his home state of Florida at either the Gators or Hurricanes, in what is a huge win for Freeman. Gamble is ranked as the No. 16 safety in the Class of 2027 and the No. 19 player in the state of Florida, according to 247Sports.

Gamble is the 10th recruit to commit to the Irish, moving Notre Dame's 2027 recruiting class to No. 9 in the country according to 247Sports.

Gamble will come to Notre Dame after being a dual-sport athlete in high school, running track adn field as a sprinter. Gamble's speed will certainly be a factor for him defensively, helping him keep up with speedy receivers in the secondary.

If there is one thing Freeman has shown is that when he gets a commitment, he is great at keeping it. When the National Signing Period opened last season, Freeman signed every player committed to his class without a single flip. This is a big win for the Irish, especially with Gamble picking them over the Buckeyes, Hurricanes, and Gators.
