The accusations that Marcus Freeman got into a physical altercation with an assistant wrestling coach earlier this month might have gone away. Still, it appears that the Notre Dame coach being exonerated wasn't the end of it.
Chris Fleeger, who attempted to get Freeman charged, is now facing an investigation into his actions. The Indiana High School Athletic Association is reportedly investigating the volunteer wrestling coach at New Prairie High School.
WSBT22 reporter Bennett Wise first discovered the investigation into Fleeger, though the specifics of the investigation haven't been released publicly.
IHSAA confirms investigation into Chris Fleeger after Marcus Freeman incident
However, both the IHSAA and New Prairie United School Corporation Superintendent Paul White confirmed to Wise that an active investigation is looking into Fleeger and his ties to the New Prairie Wrestling program.
Fleeger and Freeman crossed paths when the Notre Dame head coach was at Mishawaka High School to watch his son, Vinny, wrestle on January 3.
Fleeger filed a police report about a week after the alleged incident took place, accusing Freeman of battery. However, when the filing became public, local law enforcement quickly looked into the evidence, including a videotape that covered the purported exchange between the two men.
After reviewing evidence over that weekend, the charges were dropped, exonerating Freeman after it became clear the situation looked to be something that was relatively tame and blown out of proportion.
When asked directly by Wise in an email about the reported investigation into Fleeger, the IHSAA confirmed complaints against Fleeger. However, it said its hands were tied to confirm why because of the open complaint.
"I can confirm the IHSAA is aware of complaints against Chris Fleeger as it relates to the New Prairie wrestling program. And yes, there is an ongoing investigation. Because of this ongoing investigation, the IHSAA cannot provide additional comment at this time."
It's unclear if the incident between Fleeger and the Notre Dame football team's head coach is connected to any part of what the IHSAA is investigating or an unconnected run-in.
