The NFL is waiting, but Marcus Freeman is content at Notre Dame for awhile.

When college and NFL teams began firing head coaches so early on into both seasons, many programs were quick to try to lock up their own head coaches with new deals. Indiana secured Curt Cignetti, Nebraska secured Matt Rhule, but Notre Dame has just given Marcus Freeman a new contract in December of 2024.

While Freeman was adamant about not taking another coaching job, the NFL kept calling, and it seems like, for a while, the Irish could realistically lose their head guy. However, Freeman finally made it clear that he would return to Notre Dame for another season, but his latest interview on NFL Network should make Notre Dame fans happy.

When talking about his time at Notre Dame, Freeman certainly speaks like a man who loves his job. While Freeman can never say never about future jobs in the NFL, he also feels like the job he has at Notre Dame is pretty great.

"I have the best job in America, and I say that with a strong conviction," Freeman said on Good Morning Football. "I love this place."

Marcus Freeman isn't planning on leaving South Bend anytime soon

While the future is always uncertain, Freeman is pretty happy with the gig he has now. Plus, there is one thing Freeman has yet to do at Notre Dame, and that is win a National Championship. He has done tough things and at least gotten there back in 2024, but now he wants to get back and finish the job.

Something Freeman also loves at Notre Dame is the people he is surrounded by. He loves those who surround him in administration and in his coaching tree, but he also knows that the guys he is coaching are pretty special as well.

"I get the chance to coach some of the best young men in the world," Freeman said. "This is what I'm called to do, and I am fulfilled, I am happy, and I love being here, and I am grateful for this opportunity."

While the door is not forever closed on the NFL for Freeman, it will certainly be some time before he chooses to leave South Bend.
