Notre Dame faces NBA Draft decision drama with Kebba Njie

Another Notre Dame player is testing the NBA Draft process — but it sounds like the door is still open for a return.

Last year, the Notre Dame basketball team had to worry about Markus Burton checking things out and seeing if the NBA was the path he should follow. This year, there’s another one of Micah Shrewsberry’s charges looking in that direction as Kebba Njie is at least leaning towards going pro.

On Tuesday morning, the NBA released a list of 106 players that have filed as early entry candidates for the 2025 NBA Draft. The Fighting Irish is among them. However, like Burton, it appears that Njie is getting his name on this list with the absolute ability to stay in college and play another season under Shrewsberry.

Interestingly enough, there is another former member of the Notre Dame basketball team that’s giving the NBA a long look. Tae Davis is also seeing what going pro could offer. While the list still shows him as a member of the Irish, he entered the transfer portal earlier this year and isn’t expected to come back to South Bend, even if he stays in college.

Njie giving the draft a look is certainly an interesting move for a forward that averaged just 6.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He averaged 23 points per game in 31 appearances this past season.

It’s also been reported that the junior was seen working out with Notre Dame earlier this spring so he’s clearly not left the team.

That would seem to be another indicator that this move is very similar to Burton’s. Kebba Njie might have his name on the list but he has until May 28 to pull it off and return to the Notre Dame basketball team and that seems extremely likely.
